Whitaker grew up in on the East Coast, largely influenced by Western Painting approaches and idiom, especially at The Art Students League of New York and Rhode Island School of Design. Inspired by Nature, natural light and the expressively tactile quality of oil paint, Whitaker weaves together the figure and landscape to create a new vision of oneness and connection. His subjects, sculpted, cut and brushed into being, emerge out of the light, the paint and the landscapes.
